If you have any news, with regards to the club, then let Margaret know and she will add it to the newsletterWelcome to our autumn news letter. After the cold start to the year we are now at last enjoying the sunshine. Due to a slight hitch we have been unable to have our teaching courses up and running as we had hoped by the time the summer holidays started. Hopefully this has now been sorted and both the STCB (green shirt) and the STCF (red shirt) and the NARS will be up and running in the next few weeks. To help pay for these courses we have been very lucky to have received a grant from Sussex Community Foundation Grassroots of £4,838.00. This is thanks to the committee for telephoning just about anybody that may be able to help and ending up with Hastings Voluntary Action who put us in touch with the Sussex Community Foundation. Although our trainee teachers will still have to pay towards the cost of this course it will be a fraction of the true price. We must start to look for funding towards the courses for 2011. As ALL of our staff are VOLUNTEERS we like to keep the cost of trainings as low as possible.
It has been brought to our attention that in the not too distant future cheques will be fazed out. We have looked into the use of mobile credit/debit card machines but the rental cost and price per transaction make it impossible for us at the moment to do this. Cheques will begin to be withdrawn in 2011. As cheque books run out the banks will not be issuing any more. This will be the time when we will deal with cash only. As the withdrawing of cheques takes effect we will re-evaluate the situation and take the necessary course of action.During the first six months of this year it was brought to our attention that some bullying was taking place either before the lesson started or during the lesson. Our staff was notified and it was dealt with. The parents did the correct thing by telling staff and allowing us to see to it. Please, never approach the child yourself as this can create a bigger issue. To help reduce the chances of bullying we ask all parents to wait in the changing room with their child/children until three minutes before their lesson is due to start. Under no circumstances must parents/guardians go on to the poolside to wait for their child’s lesson to finish. This is the only access to the poolside and must not be obstructed. At the end of the lesson meet your child in the changing room and then find a cubicle to dry them in. Please do NOT LEAVE clothes in the cubicles or “book” a cubicle for when your child comes out from its lesson.
Although we know that no parent or guardian would drop their child off and then leave the building, we have been asked by our insurance company to put this in writing to you all and to include it in our rules and regulations and so this is what the club is telling you all. NO PARENT OR GUARDIAN MUST LEAVE THE BUILDING WHILST THEIR CHILD IS SWIMMING. You are totally responsible for preparing your child for their swim and for collecting and drying/dressing your child after their swim. We appreciate your help on this issue. Our 4th Olympics have taken place. A large number of children took part and judging by the noise coming from the pool area, thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The raffle was drawn on the night and raised £96.00 and guess the number of sweets raised £10.50 and was won by Shannon Leigh-Adams guessing325. The total number of sweets was 337. There will be no swimming on Friday November 5th due to it being Guy Fawkes night, Contractors may be starting work on repairs to the centre towards the end of this year. Please keep an eye on our notice board for up dates on this issue.
